Role details

Would you like to use your data and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) skills and experience to support the White Rose Forest (WRF) to deliver woodland establishment and management projects across North and West Yorkshire? The White Rose Forest partnership, via Kirklees Council, is recruiting for an experienced GIS and Data Manager to join the team on a permanent basis.

The White Rose Forest (WRF) is the largest of the 15 Community Forests in England and we work in partnership with local and regional government authorities, national parks, landowners, businesses and communities across North and West Yorkshire. 2026 is an important year for our partnership as we launch our new long-term Strategy and 5-year Action Plan, which set out our vision and targets for woodland creation and management in the region, and begin the next phase of our hugely successful Government-funded Trees for Climate programme.

To help us deliver our plans we are now recruiting a GIS and Data Manager to join the WRF team. Under the line management of the WRF Programme Director, the successful applicant will be responsible for the management and continuous improvement of WRF GIS data and systems and provide related training and support to the central team and partners as required. The successful candidate will require a degree-level qualification in a subject with analytical content or demonstrate the ability to work at this level. They will also have strong relevant work experience and knowledge in order to meet the essential skills and experience detailed in the full job description.

This post is a permanent role employed by Kirklees Council on behalf of the White Rose Forest. Kirklees Council is the accountable body for the WRF partnership with primary responsibility for members of the central team, project coordination and financial management.

The successful candidate will be joining an experienced team who are passionate about the future of our trees and natural environment here in Yorkshire. As with all WRF team members, the GIS and Data Manager will work from home without an office base. However, there is the requirement to attend monthly meetings in locations spread across North and West Yorkshire and at other times as required by the needs of the organisation. You well therefore require the ability to travel independently.

Please read the full job description before applying for this role.

Kirklees Council is an equal opportunities employer and welcome applicants from all sections of the community. Benefits for this role include 28 days holiday, flexible working arrangements and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.

The closing date for applications is Thursday 7th May 2026 and interviews will be held on the 13th and 20th May.
