Mayor Tracy Brabin Headshot

Hear from the Mayor

West Yorkshire is home to over 1.2 million women and girls. As the first woman elected as Metro Mayor, keeping them safe is one of my top priorities. This effort is part of my original Police and Crime Plan (2021 - 2024) and continues in my new plan (2024 – 2028)

Sadly, violence against women and girls remains a major issue. That’s why it’s crucial we work together to stop it. We are committed to making all places safer, whether in our streets, park, or in private spaces like homes. We are also increasing efforts to tackle sexual violence and domestic abuse by confronting those who harm others and ensuring support is available for anyone in need.

Abuse often stems from the unfair treatment of women and girls, a problem built over generations. It can affect anyone, regardless of their background, beliefs, sexuality or where they live.

This page outlines our work with partners to make West Yorkshire a safer place for women and girls in every part of our region.
