The West Yorkshire Youth Commission is a peer-led project for young people.

About the Youth Commission

The Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) has partnered with Leaders Unlocked to develop a West Yorkshire Youth Commission. It enables young people to help build safer communities and have their say about urgent issues that affect their lives.

The group are helping to shape local approaches in response to violent crime and exploitation. Their aims include:

  • Rehabilitation and prevention
  • Community relationships and life
  • Attitudes and violence towards women
  • Gangs, drugs and knife crime

The Youth Commission report

As part of the 2024/25 Big Conversation report, the Youth Commission engaged in peer research with 1,702 young people. This research included:

  • Over 81 consultation events
  • Online surveys
  • Peer-led workshops
  • Engagement stands
  • One-to-one conversations across West Yorkshire.
