The Fatal Five are:

  • Careless driving - A factor in over half of all fatal and serious injuries on the roads in West Yorkshire.
  • Drink and drug driving - Even a small amount can affect you. If you’re driving, best to have none for the road.
  • Not wearing a seatbelt - Whether a driver or a passenger, you are twice as likely to survive a crash if you’re wearing your seatbelt.
  • Using a mobile phone - Drivers distracted by mobile devices are four times more likely to crash.
  • Speeding - Kills or injuries 137 young people every week in Britain.

Road users who commit any of the Fatal Five offences are much more likely to be involved in a fatal collision.

We can all improve road safety. Always drive carefully and at safe speeds. Never drive after drinking alcohol or taking drugs. Always wear a seatbelt and keep your hands off your phone.
