Overview of training

The introductory ‘Content Creation for the Creative Industries’ course  is ideal for beginners looking to build a solid creative foundation. This course provides a comprehensive foundation in digital content creation, equipping you with technical skills, creative strategies, and industry insights to develop professional-quality work.

By the end of the course, you will have developed a strong understanding of content creation and the different types of content graphics, motion graphics and video workflows. You will develop essential pixel and vector-based design skills. Develop animation and motion design skills. Master cutting, sequencing, adding effects, and transitions.

Understand how AI is transforming content creation. Work on a final project showcasing all acquired skills acquired during your time on the course. Also learn best practices for portfolio development to attract clients or employers.

1. Introduction to Content Creation

  • Overview of content formats: images, video, and multimedia
  • Understanding file formats, resolutions, and compression
  • Working with templates, fonts, and layouts
  • Colour theory and basic design principles
  • Essential tools and software for beginners
  • Practical Exercise that will be submitted to aid assessment of the module.

2. Design thinking, Project Conceptualisation & Planning

  • What is a mood board and why is it important?
  • What is Pre-Viz, and why is it important?
  • Storyboarding and sketching initial ideas
  • Organising projects and managing workflow
  • Practical Exercise that will be submitted to aid assessment of the module.

3. Pixel Design

  • Introduction to pixel graphics and their applications
  • Understanding the user interface and tools
  • Basic image editing and retouching techniques
  • Working with layers, masks, and selections
  • Creating and exporting designs for different platforms
  • Practical Exercise that will be submitted to aid assessment of the module.

4. Vector Design

  • Introduction to vector graphics and their applications
  • Understanding the user interface and tools
  • Creating and editing shapes, paths, and typography
  • Designing simple logos, icons, and illustrations
  • Creating and exporting designs for different platforms
  • Practical Exercise that will be submitted to aid assessment of the module.

5. Motion Graphics & Animation

  •  Introduction to motion graphics and animation principles
  • Understanding the user interface and tools
  • Understanding keyframes, layers, and effects
  • Creating simple motion graphics and animations
  • Exporting time-based file formats
  • Practical Exercise that will be submitted to aid assessment of the module.

6. Video Editing 

  • Introduction to video and editing basics
  • Importing footage, cutting, and organising clips
  • Adding transitions, text overlays, and effects
  • Importing and editing music and voice-over audio tracks 
  • Exporting videos for different platforms
  • Practical Exercise that will be submitted to aid assessment of the module.

7. AI in Content Creation and free design online tools

  • Exploring AI-assisted image generation and enhancement
  • Ethical considerations of AI in creative work
  • Practical exercises using AI tools in content creation
  • Introduction to free online design platforms
  • Practical Exercise that will be submitted to aid assessment of the module.

8. Final Project and Portfolio Development.

  • Applying skills to a personal or client-based project
  • Developing a simple portfolio to showcase work
  • Receiving feedback and refining designs
  • Creating a portfolio piece or pitch presentation
  • Presenting final projects with peer-to-peer feedback and discussion
  • Practical Exercise (Duration - 2 Days) working from a client brief.
    o (Day One - Project Conceptualisation & Planning)
    o (Day Two - Project Production, Delivery and group feedback)
  • Final Project and supporting material will be submitted to aid assessment of the module and the application of skills developed during the course.
