Overview of training

Jump into the dynamic world of live events and festivals with this bespoke course. Festival and Event Crewing provides you with the foundational knowledge and practical skills necessary to become a valuable member of any event crew. From site management and crowd control to technical production and sustainability, you'll gain hands-on experience and industry insights that will set you on the path to a successful career.

This course will equip you with the essential skills and knowledge required for effective event crewing. 

You’ll learn:

  • Site Management: Understand site layouts, mapping, access and egress,
  • Implement Effective Crowd Control: Learn crowd dynamics, manage flow, communicate effectively, and handle emergency procedures.
  • Prioritise Health and Safety: Understand and apply event safety regulations, conduct risk assessments, and utilize proper PPE.
  • Gain Technical Production Skills: Learn the basics of sound and lighting systems, stage setup, and backline knowledge.
  • Promote Sustainability: Be aware of eco-friendly event practices,

This Skills Bootcamp delivers hands-on, job-ready training aligned to live vacancies in West Yorkshire’s festival and event production sectors. Learners will build core competencies across four key areas, gaining the technical knowledge, safety awareness, and workplace behaviours needed to thrive as freelance crew or progress into further training.

Site Management & Planning

  • Introduction to Festival/Event Site Layout
  • Site Mapping, Grid Systems, Ingress & Egress
  • Crowd Control, Crowd Dynamics, Flow Management
  • Emergency Procedures and Communication Protocols

Sustainability & Environmental Awareness

  • Reducing the Environmental Impact of Live Events
  • Sustainable Site Management Techniques

Technical Production Skills

  • Load-ins and Load-outs: Logistics & Workflow
  • Power Distribution, Staging, Sound, and Lighting
  • Health and Safety for Technical Environments

Compliance & Industry Certifications

  • Event Safety Passport (ESP)
  • Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
  • Mental Health Awareness
  • ACT (Action Counter Terrorism) Awareness

You will participate in simulated practical scenarios and employer informed projects, culminating in progression into freelance crewing, further training, or guaranteed employer interviews with local and regional partners

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Implement safe and efficient crowd management strategies.
  • Apply essential Health and Safety practises in an event environment.
  • Assist with basic technical production tasks.
  • Integrate sustainable practises into event operations
  • Understand terminology synonymous with the live events industry.
  • Be able to work as part of an effective team.

This course provides a valuable stepping stone for anyone wanting to work in the exciting and dynamic world of live events and festivals. You will leave the course with an Event Safety Passport and will be equipped with the skills and confidence to begin your career as a valued crew member.

This course provides a direct pathway into entry-level event crewing roles in site management, stagehand work, event logistics, crowd control and technical assistance. With experience, learners can reliably progress into more specialised technical roles within the industry.
