Overview of training

This course is ideal for: 

  • New entrants to the construction industry
  • Career changers seeking to retrain
  • Self-employed individuals or property owners interested in retrofitting
  • Businesses wishing to upskill existing staff in green construction methods 

You will gain foundational knowledge and practical experience in green construction methods and technologies, essential for meeting the growing demand for low-carbon, energy-efficient buildings. This industry-informed Skills Bootcamp combines classroom-based instruction with hands-on learning and immersive virtual reality experiences.  This includes the opportunity for you to attend live sites, as well as bespoke, state of the art training facilities to learn green skills with industry leaders. 

The programme is delivered over 14 days and is structured as follows:

Week 1 

  • Day 1: Induction & Introduction
  • Day 2: Health & Safety in Construction
  • Day 3: Working at Heights / Manual Handling
  • Day 4: Emergency First Aid
  • Day 5: Fire Safety 

Week 2 

  • Day 1: Introduction to Passive Housing (New Build & Retrofit)
  • Day 2: Air Tightness (Doors, Windows & Insulation)
  • Day 3: Retrofit Principles and Practices
  • Day 4: Insulated Concrete Form (ICF)
  • Day 5: Renewable Energy (Solar PV / Heat Pumps) 

Week 3 

  • Day 1: SUDS – sustainable drainage systems
  • Self-directed learning, CSCS test practise, employer focused sessions, site visits, work experience, work trials, and job interviews 

Key outcomes include: 

  • Understanding core principles of green construction and retrofit techniques
  • Exposure to cutting-edge tools including Virtual Reality modules (delivered with Focus XR)
  • Real-world learning at live sites and industry-standard training facilities
  • Enhanced site readiness via modules adapted from the Real Site Skills programme 

You will leave the course with practical skills, increased employability, and direct engagement opportunities with employers seeking talent in the green construction sector. 

By participating, individuals and businesses alike contribute to addressing the skills gap in green construction and supporting the delivery of sustainable housing and infrastructure targets across the UK
