• Understand the principles of Continuous Improvement (CI), Lean, and Six Sigma, and how they contribute to operational excellence.
• Be able to apply DMAIC methodology to each phase appropriately within a real or simulated process.
• Understand and adhere to compliance responsibilities, including Health & Safety, environmental, and customer requirements.
• Form and participate in improvement teams, understanding roles, responsibilities, and effective communication within teams.
• Identify and scope improvement projects, using selection tools such as scoring matrices and scoping trees.
• Develop clear and effective project charters, including objectives, boundaries, timelines, and expected outcomes.
• Capture the Voice of the Customer (VoC) and translate it into Critical to Quality (CTQ) requirements.
• Map processes using SIPOC, process maps, and value stream maps (VSM) to visualise flow, inputs, outputs, and wastes.
• Plan and conduct data collection activities, defining operational definitions and ensuring data quality and reliability.
• Apply basic statistical tools to interpret variation and performance, including charts and measurement system analysis (MSA).
• Use structured Root Cause Analysis (RCA) tools, such as Fishbone diagrams and 5 Whys, to identify the true source of problems.
• Generate, prioritise, and evaluate potential solutions, using PDCA cycles, impact/effort analysis, and experimentation.
• Understand and apply change management principles, including stakeholder analysis, communication planning, and managing resistance.
• Develop implementation plans, incorporating timelines, risk assessments, and control elements.
• Build control and reaction plans, including sustainability techniques like 5S, visual management, and error proofing.
• Present improvement projects effectively, using data, visuals, and professional communication techniques.
• Reflect on personal and team development, identifying strengths, areas for growth, and next steps in improvement practice.
