What is the Brownfield Housing Fund?
The Brownfield Housing Fund is a major regional regeneration initiative led by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, with £89 million in funding from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities.
Covering the districts of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds, and Wakefield, the programme is driving forward the redevelopment of underused brownfield land to meet housing demand and revitalise communities.
Programme objectives include:
- The construction of 5,400 new homes
- Accelerating the delivery of housing on brownfield sites
- Regenerating neighbourhoods by transforming vacant, underused land
- Supporting carbon reduction through:
- Installation of low-carbon technologies
- Close to transport hubs
- Increased use of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC)
- Boosting productivity by supporting local construction supply chains
- Delivering a mix of housing types and tenures, including affordable homes
This programme plays a key role in delivering inclusive, sustainable growth across West Yorkshire by creating vibrant, connected places where people want to live and work.
