Energy price emergency grants

Financial support to help West Yorkshire businesses tackle energy costs, reduce carbon emissions and become more resilient.

Completed

What are the energy price emergency grants?

The energy price emergency grants was part of the clean energy and environmental resilience programme. We’re committed to a low-carbon, sustainable future. Homes will be well-insulated and energy-efficient, helping reduce fuel poverty and improve air quality. Businesses will use energy and resources efficiently, cutting pollution while supporting a greener economy. We’ll also protect and enhance our natural landscapes in innovative ways.

What was achieved?

We offered urgent financial help to businesses in West Yorkshire to manage rising energy costs through grants worth £1.1 million.

Part of our Climate and Environment Plan’s Business Sustainability Package, this programme supported businesses to lower energy bills, reduce carbon emissions and build long-term resilience.

It included:

  • Reducing fuel poverty and cutting carbon emissions from homes by making them more energy efficient (this includes retrofitting houses to reduce heat loss).
  • Lowering emissions from businesses by offering sustainability support packages, improving buildings to keep in heat, and using more green energy (like solar power).
  • Encouraging people and businesses to take action to cut their own carbon emissions and make positive changes in their day-to-day lives.
  • Building stronger protection against climate change by:
    • Investing in natural flood defences
    • Supporting community-led projects to adapt to local needs
    • Helping businesses become more resilient to climate impacts
  • Providing funding to improve education, including:
    • New learning materials and curriculum updates focused on the climate emergency
    • Support to help individuals train for and access green jobs and skills
  • Offering grants to local communities so they can take part in achieving net zero emissions and help lead local climate action.

This project ran from December 2022 until June 2023.

How was this project funded?

The project received £1.1 million in funding from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

What is the clean energy and environmental resilience programme?

We’re working to make West Yorkshire cleaner, greener, and better prepared for the effects of climate change, while creating new opportunities for businesses and communities.

This programme supported:

  • Low-carbon, sustainable growth that helps businesses cut pollution and use energy more efficiently
  • Green spaces and natural landscapes that attract people to live, work and visit
  • New technologies and innovative systems that give people more control over how they use energy
  • Well-insulated homes and cleaner air, so that problems like poor air quality and fuel poverty become a thing of the past
