What is the Saxton Lane project?
The Saxton Lane development is bringing 204 affordable rented homes to the Leeds area, helping address local housing needs. The project supports Leeds City Council’s ambition to deliver over 1,000 new affordable homes annually.
The mix of 1, 2 and 3-bedroom apartments will be designed for energy efficiency and accessibility:
- 198 homes will meet EPC B energy standards
- 62 homes will be M4(2) accessible and adapted dwellings
- 3 homes will be M4(3) wheelchair user dwellings
- The scheme is 100% electric, with no gas supply
- Photovoltaic panels will be installed on the building and the building will use heat pump-based heating systems for communal areas
This scheme supports the Combined Authority’s goals by helping local businesses, providing sustainable homes and reducing carbon emissions. It includes several low-carbon and environmentally friendly features that will help move us toward a net zero economy.
The project will be delivered by Wakefield and District Housing, who are committed to building homes that are sustainable, energy-efficient, high-quality and meet the needs of residents.
There is a clear demand for more affordable housing in Leeds. This scheme will help address that need by increasing the number of affordable homes and transforming 0.18 hectares of previously used (brownfield) land into housing.
Work began in June 2023 and is expected to be completed by December 2025.
