What is the Witt UK Group project?

The Witt UK Group development in Calderdale was part of the Infrastructure for Growth programme, which was supported by the Leeds City Region LEP.

This programme began in 2014 with a £35 million investment from central government through the Growing Places Fund.

The funding was used to support 15 infrastructure projects across the region, helping to unlock new jobs, homes, and commercial space.

The Witt UK Group, a world-renowned designer and manufacturer of industrial fans, received a £1.5 million loan from the Growing Places Fund to support their relocation and growth plans in Calderdale.

What was achieved?

The loan enabled the company to purchase a new site with three times more space than their previous premises. This allowed Witt UK Group to bring all operations back under one roof, improving efficiency and supporting further growth.

  • With the extra space and improved facilities, the company was able to launch new product lines and take on larger, more complex contracts.
  • As a result of the move, the business will create over 26 new jobs by reshoring work that was previously outsourced outside the city region.
  • In addition, the company launched an expanded apprenticeship programme in line with the LEP’s focus on supporting apprenticeships.
  • Witt UK Group now recruits two to three apprentices each year, investing in local skills and supporting the next generation of engineers.

Witt UK Group led the project with West Yorkshire Combined Authority as the delivery partner.

Work began in 2013 and was completed in 2024. The loan for this project has been repaid in full.

How was this project funded?

£1.5 million from the Growing Places Fund.
