Communities

Safer. Stronger. Better connected. Everyone deserves a West Yorkshire that works together to tackle crime, social issues and build stronger communities.

From initiatives such as the Youth Advisory Group to our Vision Zero Strategy, we aim to make big changes across our region. Read on to see how we are placing communities at the centre of our future plans.

Communities are the beating heart of a region. That’s why the Combined Authority values strong community spirit for the wellbeing of West Yorkshire.

A 2024 survey showed that 97.9% of West Yorkshire residents and 95% of partners believe ‘safer places and thriving communities’ are important.

With this in mind, we’re focusing on reducing anti-social behaviour (ASB), tackling serious violence and violence against women and girls, improving road safety and working with partners to support those affected by crime.

We’re also backing important grassroots projects such as the Mayor’s Safer Communities Fund, the Vision Zero Strategy and carrying out work to support victims and witnesses. This last initiative helps victims recover from crime and understand their rights.
