We were excited to welcome four SEND schools for the Inclusive Futures programme. This series of workshops led to a reverse careers fair that highlighted the students' talents.
In partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), the workshops aimed to help students recognise their skills, explore job roles and understand workplace expectations.
The main goal was to boost students’ confidence and prepare them for conversations with various employers. This aimed to secure valuable work experience opportunities.
The reverse careers fair was a huge success and a memorable highlight. There were musicians, digital creatives, horticulturalists and entrepreneurs among the students.
Employers attended a workshop on inclusivity led by Enable Disability and Inclusion Consultants. They heard from DWP’s Advocacy Team about the Government’s Access to Work scheme, plus practical tips from local businesses like Jacobs and Nando’s on supporting young people in the workplace. Students also enjoyed a confidence-boosting session from Yew Tree Youth Theatre, working together in a safe environment.
After these workshops, employers engaged directly with the students. This gave them a chance to showcase their skills and discuss potential career paths.
The event was a great success and enjoyed by all. Many students left with promising work experience offers, marking a significant step toward their future careers.
