Be bright be seen, that’s the message from the region’s road safety partnership ahead of the clocks going back this weekend.
As the nights draw in, this time of year tends to see an increase in both pedestrians being killed or seriously injured and careless driving.
In October 2024, 29 pedestrians were killed or seriously injured on our roads.
West Yorkshire Vision Zero, is urging everybody to all do all they can to keep our roads safe.
To help raise awareness, a new video has been released showing some good examples of being bright and being seen, and a few not so good.
Key tips for darker nights include:
Alison Lowe OBE, Chair of the West Yorkshire Vision Zero Board and Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, said: “There’s a lot to look forward to at this time of year and we don’t want anyone to come to harm or have to deal with the devastation of a loved one being hurt.
“Road deaths and serious injuries are avoidable, and by doing simple things like taking extra time to check the road, driving at safe speeds and ensuring your lights are on, you are helping to keep everyone safe.
“We continue to work towards Vision Zero, but importantly, we need everyone’s help to make it a reality.”
