A week of action focusing on neighbourhood policing has launched with the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Alison Lowe joining officers on patrol in Leeds to see their work first hand. Alison went out with the Leeds City Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) in the city centre on Saturday night.
The evening included high visibility patrols engaging with those enjoying the bars and clubs, reassurance visits to venues, as well as a drop in on the Women’s Night Safe Space, which provides a safe space for women and girls.
The visit was done in support of the Neighbourhood Policing Week of Action 2024, which begins today, to celebrate the difference NPTs make in their communities
Alison said: “The best part of joining patrols is being able to speak to and thank officers and staff for everything they do.
“I’d encourage everyone to get involved with Neighbourhood Policing Week, find out more about your local team and what they’re doing in your area.
“If you like what you see, let them know you appreciate them.”
Chief Inspector Andy Loftus, of West Yorkshire Police’s Local Policing department, said: “The Neighbourhood Policing Week of Action is an opportunity to celebrate community policing and the achievements of neighbourhood officers across West Yorkshire.
“To mark the week, vital work to protect the public and reassure communities will be showcased by our police officers, staff and the wider partnership across the five districts.
“I would encourage members of the public to speak with our officers, who will be out and about in your area working alongside partners and local businesses.”
