The National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC) have today published the first assessment of police performance against the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) framework.
The data released covers October 2021 to March 2022, and is intended to be a critical baseline for assessing police performance over time. Subsequent national assessments will be published annually.
Responding to the report, Alison Lowe OBE, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, said:
“Today’s report provides a national line in the sand from which we must see improvement. This is not only about tackling issues of violence against women and girls within policing, but a much-needed drive to increase trust and confidence in the whole system.
“Locally the Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin, has made the safety of women and girls a top priority, recently launching a dedicated strategy to focus this work. She has also provided additional funding and partnership programmes, including through the West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit.
“Most importantly, we would always encourage anyone affected by inappropriate behaviour, abuse or violence to report it. Come forward, you will be believed.”
