West Yorkshire’s Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Alison Lowe OBE is also the Joint Chair of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC) Race Disparity Working Group.
As part of her national portfolio, Alison will be considering the latest Crest report and its recommendations as part of ongoing work to tackle race disparity and improve communities’ confidence in policing and the criminal justice system.
She is also working closely with the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) and other organisations on the Race Inclusion Plan. Alison said:
“We know that West Yorkshire Police has already made positive strides in this area, through key training and the use of body worn camera, but more can still be done.
“This report highlights the startling evidence around the lack of trust that children have around stop and search. Identifying this is a step in the right direction.
“Though the findings are depressingly familiar; there is opportunity to change, and I hope the subsequent recommendations will ensure greater trust among both children and adults.”
