Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, said:
“Today’s day of action by the International Trade Union Confederation is a chance for people in our region to join those around the world in making their voices heard on the need for urgent action to tackle the climate emergency.
“Here in West Yorkshire, we have a bold ambition of creating a net zero carbon economy by 2038 at the latest and we know that our region’s businesses will play a vital role in achieving that goal.
“When I became Mayor, I made tackling the climate emergency one of my pledges – and that means doing everything in my power to ensure our region is a place where everyone benefits from the economic, health and environmental benefits of a net zero carbon economy.
“The Combined Authority and the LEP already have a number of support schemes in place to help businesses reduce their waste, water use and switch to more efficient ways of working.
“But we know that we can only do so much as a region – the climate emergency requires global action. As we approach COP26 next month, this day of action is an opportunity to demonstrate the need for urgent collaborative action to both our own government and those across the globe.”
