West Yorkshire’s Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime has today welcomed a new report by the Home Affairs Committee on the funding approach to tackle violence against women and girls.
Alison Lowe OBE spoke at a recent session in the House of Commons, helping to contribute to the report.
The Deputy Mayor called for longer term funding arrangements to support the delivery of local services and a better mapping of partnership spending to help identify gaps or overlaps.
“Tackling violence against women and girls is a number one priority here in West Yorkshire and this report quite rightly highlights the need for greater support for smaller providers and longer-term thinking on funding.
“Having personally provided evidence to the Home Affairs Committee, I was able to share our local experiences and point out some of the current shortfalls in the system, which are contributing to a fragmented approach.
“I hope the recommendations will lead to a more consistent delivery of services nationally and greater support for victims and witnesses.”
