Statement on child sexual exploitation

Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin said:

“We will always stand with victims of this abhorrent crime to end the abuse and bring perpetrators to justice. Victims tell us they want action now and support for their recovery, which is what we are delivering.

"We will never ignore the systemic failings of the past and there has been a huge amount of work in West Yorkshire to bring about the change survivors want to see, including those recommended by local and national independent reviews and reports.

"In West Yorkshire, the police have set up a dedicated, specialist unit to tackle historic crimes in these cases. This pursuit of justice for victims is ongoing, and we must recognise the bravery of those who have come forward so far, and who inspire others to do the same."
