West Yorkshire Mayor to hold Question Time events across region

Members of the public have the chance to put their questions directly to the Mayor of West Yorkshire in a series of new Question Time events

Mayor Tracy Brabin will host the first in-person event at The Hepworth in Wakefield next week (Thursday 25), with further sessions taking place across the region in February.

Hosted by award-winning journalist Charlotte Leeming, the Mayor will face questions about issues that affect the 2.3 million people living in the region.

Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin said:

“Having the opportunity to meet elected leaders, ask us questions and hold us accountable is vitally important for our democracy.

“This is your chance to ask me about the things that matter to you.

“Hearing directly from the people I represent at these events will help me on my mission to build a brighter West Yorkshire that works for all.”

Participants can ask the Mayor about anything that falls under her remit, including transport, housing and planning, and finance powers.

The Mayor will visit the Piece Hall in Halifax on February 5 and Nexus in Leeds on February 22.

Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Alison Lowe OBE, will also attend the free West Yorkshire Mayor's Question Time events to answer questions.

The added scrutiny comes as the Mayor and West Yorkshire Combined Authority seek to gain further devolved powers from the Government, including new powers over business support, careers and skills services, local transport and retrofit programmes.

Charlotte, a journalist of more than 20 years’ experience at the BBC, said:

“These are important and informative events where people from across West Yorkshire have an opportunity for their voices to be heard.

“As an independent journalist, it's my role to ensure these are robust, rigorous and valuable discussions around the issues that really matter to people in their daily lives.”
