West Yorkshire Mayor, Tracy Brabin, said:
“We’ve been clear businesses, schools, and hospitals in our region, and throughout the country, needed urgent support with energy bills.
“I’m glad ministers have finally recognised the seriousness of the situation, but this does not go far enough to provide certainty and confidence.
“This support is just for the short term and many firms will see energy costs rise further and be forced to borrow which could ultimately mean they go bust.”
Interim Chair of the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership Board, Mark Roberts, said:
“The support announced by the Government today is welcome and it’s right that voluntary, community and public sector organisations are also included in the package.
“But we must recognise that many businesses in West Yorkshire will still face ongoing challenges with operating costs after the six-month period and they need certainty to plan for the long term.
“So, we will continue with our voucher scheme to support businesses with improving their energy efficiency and help them reduce carbon emissions.”
I’m glad ministers have finally recognised the seriousness of the situation but what they’ve announced today does not go far enough. They need to do more to provide certainty and confidence.
