West Yorkshire's Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime responds to latest ONS Crime Statistics

In response to the latest Crime Statistics from the Office of National Statistics, West Yorkshire’s Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Alison Lowe OBE, said:

“I am encouraged to see that the increase in recorded crime in West Yorkshire is slowing, but every single crime has an impact on our communities so we will never be complacent.

“Increases in robberies and burglaries are a concern. While I hope West Yorkshire Police’s attendance at all domestic burglaries brings some reassurance, we will keep a close eye on these areas.

“Sexual offences have also increased, which we know disproportionally affect women and girls. Their safety is our top priority, and we remain absolutely committed to stamping out these horrendous crimes.

“The Mayor and I share the Chief Constable’s ambition to see a reduction in recorded crime and will continue to closely monitor the picture here.

“Above all, we are putting victims at the heart of our work and will keep striving to build a safer, fairer West Yorkshire for all.”
