Child car seat checking events

Parents and guardians are urged to help protect their children by attending free car seat safety check events across West Yorkshire in the coming months.

Getting your child’s car seat checked takes just a few minutes. It’s a great opportunity for parents and carers to speak to an expert and make sure their children are travelling safely.

Trained staff will check that the seat is fitted correctly and meets safety requirements. They'll also offer guidance and make any necessary adjustments in a friendly, supportive environment.

No appointment is needed - simply turn up to one of the events taking place across the county.

The events are organised by the West Yorkshire Vision Zero Partnership and delivered by Good Egg Safety CIC.

By law, children must use a child car seat until they are 12 years old or 135 centimetres tall, whichever comes first.

Over 60% of child car seats were found to be incorrectly fitted at check events in West Yorkshire in 2024. Of the 763 seats inspected across 25 events last summer, only 280 met safety standards.
