Applications are now open for new members aged between and 14-25, living locally.
Over the past year the Youth Commission has developed key findings and recommendations following peer research with over 1300 young people.
They focused on priority areas including:
• Rehabilitation and Prevention
• Community Relationships and Life
• Attitudes and Violence Towards Women & Girls
• Gangs, Drugs, and Knife Crime
“People don’t feel as if they can speak up because of the prejudice that surrounds them or tensions, depending on what groups they are from.
“Sharing your opinions and sharing the way you feel is vital and everyone’s suggestion matters.
“We can then implement that, but we have to hear your voice first.”
“The Youth Commission have been instrumental in shaping our partnership approach to serious violence and exploitation since their arrival.
“By approaching our work through the eyes of a young person, we can reach those who are at greatest risk, changing behaviours on issues such as knife crime.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of, working with key agencies to take forward the priorities, which the current members have already developed.”
"After the amazing work of the Youth Commission members last year, we're really excited to be giving more young people the opportunity to join the West Yorkshire Youth Commission and have their voice heard on key issues that affect their lives."
