Thorpe Park rail station

Our latest plans for a new Thorpe Park Rail Station in Leeds

Development

The Weaver Network

The new Thorpe Park Rail Station in Leeds is part of our commitment to deliver the Weaver Network – a seamless transport system connecting people with the places and opportunities that matter.

A new Thorpe Park Rail Station

We are developing plans to build a new Thorpe Park Rail Station between Cross Gates and Garforth on the Leeds to York section of the Transpennine railway line.

The accessible station will be built on land next to Thorpe Park, providing easy access to the offices, hotels, leisure facilities, cafes, restaurants, shops and homes in that area.

The proposed site is also near the southern end of the East Leeds Orbital Route (ELOR).

Passengers will benefit from frequent trains to Leeds with journey times of 10-12 minutes.

Proposals include:

  • Two platforms with a minimum of two trains per hour and future proofing measures to allow for a four tracked railway through Thorpe Park.
  • Step-free access via a lift and footbridge
  • A 300-space car park with Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points and disabled bays
  • Ticket machines and covered seating areas
  • Cycle storage
  • A drop-off and pick-up point
  • Provision for rail replacement bus services

Key benefits

  • Reliability and journey times.  Shorter journey times and better connectivity between Thorpe Park, destinations in the wider region and beyond.
  • Economic growth.  The new, accessible station will improve access to jobs, education and leisure opportunities.  Thorpe Park will be more attractive to new businesses and the new links will support existing businesses. The improved transport network will also support future housing growth.
  • Value for money.  Benefits include increased rail use, reduced congestion and a more inclusive transport network for existing and future communities.

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Network Rail are leading this project in consultation with Leeds City Council.

The new station will be delivered with funding from the UK Government.
