‘Keep The Door Open’ delivers an empowering message to young people that their future is literally in their hands.
Led by the Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin and Violence Reduction Partnership, it features brand-new music from local Leeds artist Nigel Ngwenya and focuses on the long-term consequences of carrying a knife.
It shows how one decision can impact life opportunities whether that’s education, employment or relationships.
We’ve seen the impact knife crime has had on our communities and the young lives lost to senseless violence.
That’s why this campaign is so important, with children and young people’s voices instrumental in shaping its focus and direction.
Using music and storytelling, it sparks new conversations on what young people want from their futures.
If you’ve been affected by any of the issues in this campaign, help and support is available.
This campaign has been launched alongside our strategy for tackling serious violence. This has been developed after speaking to as many people as possible and hearing about the profound impact serious violence has on victims, families and communities. Based on these views, the strategy’s key themes include tackling knife crime, the impact of gangs and organised crime, and reducing violence against women and girls.
