Be bright be seen, that’s the plea from the region’s road safety partnership ahead of the clocks going back this weekend.

As the nights get longer, the risk of pedestrians being killed or seriously injured can increase, alongside levels of careless driving.

In October 2025, 3 people were killed and 87 were seriously injured on our roads.

West Yorkshire Vision Zero, the county wide partnership working to end road death, is urging everybody to do all they can to keep our roads safe.

Baroness Alison Lowe OBE, Chair of the West Yorkshire Vision Zero Board and Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, said:

“Road death and serious injuries are avoidable.

“By doing simple things like taking extra time to check the road, driving at safe speeds and ensuring your lights are on we can all make a difference.

“There’s so much to look forward to at this time of year, so let’s do everything we can to keep each other safe.”

Key tips for darker nights include:

  • Ensure lights are clean and working by doing regular checks.

  • Take extra time to check the road.

  • Drive at safe speeds for the conditions.

  • Wear bright or reflective clothes.

  • Where possible, look to cross the road at dedicated cross points.

  • Ensure vehicles are clean (clean vehicles are more reflective).

  • Send footage of dangerous drivers to the police through Op Snap.

Additionally, you can show your support for keeping everyone safe on our roads by signing the Vision Zero Pledge. Pledges can also be dedicated in someone’s memory.
