Net zero in West Yorkshire

West Yorkshire Combined Authority has committed to reaching net zero by 2038 - making West Yorkshire one of England's most ambitious regions on climate.

West Yorkshire has committed to reaching net zero by 2038 - 12 years ahead of the UK's national 2050 target. West Yorkshire Combined Authority is cutting carbon emissions across transport, buildings and energy, and working with businesses and communities to build a greener economy.

We are cutting carbon emissions across transport, buildings, energy and the natural environment. Reaching net zero by 2038 will also create well-paid green jobs, boost energy efficiency in homes and businesses, improve public transport and help reverse the decline of nature and biodiversity - delivering benefits that go well beyond carbon reduction, and particularly for our most vulnerable communities.

Our net zero goals

Our mission is to tackle the climate emergency and reach net zero carbon by 2038 in a way that is fair and inclusive for everyone in West Yorkshire. We will focus on five areas: clean energy, transport decarbonisation, climate resilience and nature recovery, housing retrofit, and supporting businesses to decarbonise and create green jobs.
