Tackling serious violence

The West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) was established in 2019. We work with specialists from health, police, local authorities, education, youth justice, prisons, probation and community groups.

Public sector bodies and communities collaborate to help reduce violence through early intervention, prevention, education and joint working. It uses a public health approach that focuses on prevention instead of cure.

By improving our understanding of serious violence and testing new methods, we can introduce ‘protective factors’ to lower incidents.

In 2024/25, we have:

15,630

young people aged 24 and under reached

1,234

people aged 25 and over engaged

477

professionals trained

300

Join our Community Advisory Group

We have an exciting opportunity for West Yorkshire residents to join our Community Advisory Group.

This group will use local knowledge to discuss serious violence, community challenges, and how to address these issues.

Members will attend meetings to share thoughts on serious violence and help score community initiatives. The group will be chaired and run by its members, giving a voice to the community.

Members must be:

  • Aged 18 or over
  • Living in West Yorkshire
  • Willing to discuss serious violence and share safety messages in their community
  • Open to represent the Community Advisory Group at other meetings
  • Able to volunteer your time for at least 90 minutes every two months for meetings (virtually or in-person)
