iChoosr will also select a trusted, qualified supplier to install your panels, meaning you don’t have to worry about finding a reliable contractor for the job.  All installers and products are accredited by the UK industry and customer protection standards bodies.  Please see further information on this under the FAQ section.

Benefits of solar panels

  1. Save money on electricity bills

When you use home-generated solar power, you don't need to buy electricity from the grid, saving you money. Additionally, you can install a battery to store the solar energy your panels produce during the day so you can use it at night, which will help you save even more.
  2. Reduce your environmental impact

The sun gives us a clean and endless source of energy, unlike oil, gas, and coal, which will run out someday. Using solar panels to generate energy helps reduce carbon emissions and supports a greener future for everyone.
  3. Use green energy to charge your electric car

The Solar Together scheme offers extra options, like installing a charging point for electric vehicles. This way, you can use your own green energy to charge your car.

To register for the scheme, residents must either own their own house or have permission from the landlord to install solar panels. Small and medium-sized businesses and commonhold associations meeting this requirement can also participate.

What if I already have solar panels?

Solar Together West Yorkshire also provides battery storage installation and electric vehicle charging points for residents who already have solar panels. This helps you use more of the energy you produce yourself and rely less on electricity from the grid.

Do I need planning permission?

Solar panels usually don’t need planning permission. However, in some cases, such as in conservation areas and on listed buildings, planning permission may be required. Check with your local council, you can find your local council on the Gov website.

Who will install my solar panels?

All installers must be Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accredited and either Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC) or Home Insulation & Energy Systems Quality Assured Contractors Scheme (HIES) members to enter the qualification process. Find out more on the Solar Together website.

Can I get help to pay for solar panels?

If you own and live in your home or are a private landlord with fewer than four homes, you may be eligible for a low-interest loan to help you pay for your solar system and battery. Loans of between £5,000 - £25,000 are available at a fixed interest rate of 3.26% and 10-year loan term.

If you are interested to find out more and apply for a decision in principle (which won’t impact your credit score) please visit our low interest loan page.

Please note that electric vehicle charge points are not eligible for the low-interest loan.  The loan is also not available to businesses.
