The West Yorkshire Combined Authority is working to bring more electric vehicle chargepoints to the region through its £17 million Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) programme.
West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin is urging people to have their say on where they should go – to ensure the right chargepoints are installed in the right places, particularly in neighbourhoods where driveway charging isn’t an option.
This is part of the Combined Authority’s plans to make it easier for people in West Yorkshire to make the switch to using electric vehicles to help reduce pollution, improve air quality and tackle the climate crisis.
The consultation runs until Thursday 12th September, with people able to feedback at various drop-in sessions, webinars, online at https://www.yourvoice.westyorks-ca.gov.uk/levi, or by post.
It brings together both the LEVI programme and the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy for West Yorkshire – two Combined Authority projects aimed at improving the charging network for a greener, better-connected region.
Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin, said:
“We need to improve access to electric vehicles in order to hit our goal of becoming net zero carbon by 2038.
“I'm urging people to have their say so that we can create a greener, better-connected region that works for everyone.”
The West Yorkshire Combined Authority also wants to ensure that chargepoints are easy to use, accessible for everyone, reliable and well-maintained.
The Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy forms part of the Combined Authority’s work to deliver an integrated transport network through the Mayor’s Local Transport Plan.
To support the consultation, a free event will take place for people to find out more about making the switch to using electric vehicles, as well as being able to take part in the consultation and test-drive electric vehicles.
The ‘Explore Electric’ event will be held at John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield on Tuesday 10th September (9.30am – 2.00pm). Find out more and sign up at Eventbrite.
Drop-in sessions are being held in each district over the next few months, as well as webinars. For more information about these and the consultation, visit the Combined Authority’s Your Voice page.
