The people of West Yorkshire will get the opportunity to ask their questions about the region's buses directly to Mayor Tracy Brabin later this month.

A special edition of Mayor’s Question Time, which focuses specifically on buses, is coming to Greenhead College in Huddersfield on Thursday 22 October from 6pm.

People living in West Yorkshire can sign up for this free event and submit their questions in advance.

The Mayor is gearing up for bus franchising – the biggest change to buses in West Yorkshire for decades – which will bring services back under public control in the region, starting in Spring 2027.

It means the West Yorkshire Combined Authority will decide on bus routes, timetables and fares for passengers across the region – rather than privately owned bus operators.

This is part of the Mayor’s plans for the Weaver Network – West Yorkshire’s new transport network – which will join up buses, trains, a future mass transit system, and walking, wheeling and cycling across the region.

As bus stations continue to be upgraded across West Yorkshire, and with nearly 200 new electric buses taking shape on the production line, now is the perfect time for people to get their questions answered.

West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin said:

"People taking the bus day in, day out, understand what does and doesn't work in West Yorkshire.

“Our ambitious plans for a better-connected region have been created with the help of passengers telling us about their experiences.

“So as we gear up for our publicly owned, Weaver Network buses hitting the roads, I want to hear from you."

Kirklees is an ideal location for this bus special session, with the Mayor recently opening the brand-new Heckmondwike Bus Station, and with bus station revamps underway in Dewsbury and Huddersfield.

An independent journalist will host the event and select a range of audience questions to put to the Mayor.
