Hate Hurts

The Hate Hurts campaign raises awareness of hate crime and how to report it in West Yorkshire. Led by the West Yorkshire Mayor and West Yorkshire Police, it supports communities and encourages victims to come forward.

Hate crime and hate incidents have no place in West Yorkshire. The Hate Hurts campaign, led jointly by the Mayor of West Yorkshire and West Yorkshire Police, aims to raise awareness, support communities, and ensure everyone knows how to report.

What is a hate crime or incident?

A hate crime or incident is any behaviour that is motivated by hostility or prejudice towards a person’s:

  • Race or ethnicity
  • Religion
  • Sexual orientation
  • Disability
  • Gender identity

Reporting is important

Reporting helps us understand what is happening in our communities and ensures that appropriate action and support can be provided.

You can report a hate crime or incident via West Yorkshire Police by:

  • Calling 999 in an emergency
  • Calling 101 for non-emergencies
  • Using Text Relay/TypeTalk on 18001 101
  • Using the online hate crime reporting form
  • Using the LiveChat facility
  • Or calling in person at any police station
